Strength Training #1
I increased the weight on a couple of the exercises. Today's workout was Leg Press: 90; Lat Pull: 45; Leg Extension: 30; Chest Press: 40; Leg Curl: 30; Arm Curl: 30; Tricep Curl: 30; Calf Raises: 25@.
I weighed in at 133.5.
I wasn't really enthusiastic about the whole workout today. I don't know why I was feeling a bit anxious to be done.

My focus today was stroke count. I did lots of 25 yard repeats with the limit of 18 strokes. I was never able to get down to 16 strokes, but I did complete some in 17 strokes.
Somewhere towards the middle of the workout, I did one set of 4 X 25 full effort to see what I could do with a faster turnover and more powerful pull. In all four repeats I needed to skate at the end because I did not make it to the wall in 18 strokes.
I swam one 50 towards the end and was just able to squeeze it out in 36 strokes.

Happy Thanksgivukah!
I completed 1500m of the swim workout this morning. It was hard for me to maintain the 45 stroke limit for the 50 meters. I think that I was tired from the workout on Tuesday. I had to skate on my side at each end. But, it felt great to start out the day with a workout.

Things aren't going to work out (no pun intended) today for me to do my strength training workout. Lana had an appointment in the morning, which prevented me from being able to get out early. We had a Hannukah celebration this afternoon. It's not going to work well for me to go out to the fitness center tonight, either.
I think it might be nice for my body to get the unplanned rest anyway.

The last set of the workout today was 6 X 50m (choice) with the goal of picking up the pace to the extent that we needed the 30 seconds rest at each wall.
I chose to alternate crawl and backstroke. On the crawl I focused on a faster turnover and a more powerful pull. The first 50 (crawl) took me 45 strokes. I had to skate on my side for a bit at the end of the second and third crawl. Since I still don't really know how to swim backstroke, I just those repeats focusing on turnover and pushing.

Maybe I'm just procrastinating and wasting time reading through my older blog entries because I'm feeling tired right now. However, upon reading my entry about eating too much at the all-you-can-eat-buffet I had an idea for this entry I'm writing now.

The fitness center opens at 8am on Sundays. So, when I got up this morning I had a good deal of time before I could get to the center. I watched a replay of a Google Hangout that TI did this past week. In the hangout Terry mentioned a workout he had utilized with one of the hangout participants. The idea of the workout is that you are not allowed to exceed a certain stroke count for a certain distance. I decided that this was going to be the focus of my swim workout today.

I woke Eli up at 7:45 this morning and made it out the door with him by around 8:20am. I got to the fitness center just after 8:45am. As soon as I started to take Eli out of his stroller he started crying. So, I spent some time with him in the child care room before I started the workout.

Nothing important to report about this workout. I did 100 yard sets of Drill/Swim/Drill/Swim. My major focus was on maintaining my elbow position and reach while I was breathing. I chose drills that should help with that.
I finished with a 200 yard cool down, but did not count strokes.
One comment I can make is that I'm glad I started Masters swimming. It's nice to have somebody else come up with a workout and to have the variety that those workouts bring. I really like being able to just show up at the workout and then do whatever I'm told to do next.

I did get out of bed more quickly this morning. But, then I had to find my wallet and keys. And I had to ride my bike more slowly because there is snow on the ground!
