Masters Swim

[Friday, July 17, 2015]

I was planning to swim 4000m today. I did 100m warmup because the Masters workout was 2400m and I figured I'd do 3 X 500m after the workout. As it turns out, the workout included a good bit of speed work that toasted me pretty well. After completing just 1 X 500m I decided it would be better for me to call it a day rather than just swimming a slow, weak and sloppy 2 X 500.

Multi #6 (Brick)

[Wednesday, July 15, 2015]

I had to do the workout this afternoon because I needed to get over to the bike shop to get a new hand pump. Since I was working on client stuff in the morning and I was already feeling a little hungry before I headed out, I ate a Clif Bar and had a glass of Skratch. I can't say that I noticed a difference in the workout.

I rode for about 1:00 and ran for 0:15.

Multi #4

[Tuesday, July 14, 2015]

I was able to complete the whole swim workout in lane 2 again today. My lanemates are still appreciably faster than I am on certain sets. But, I'm hanging close enough!

I ran for 1:00 and felt pretty relaxed.

Zone 1 - Zone 2 Run

[Sunday, July 12, 2015]

I ran for 1:30 using the run 4 / walk 1 pattern.

Nothing special to report with this workout. I felt fine, but not particularly light or fast coming off what I considered an easy workout yesterday.

On Living an Exceptional Life

[Sunday, July 12, 2015]

I haven't posted anything really personal for quite some time. So, here's a really short piece.

The TL;DR - As I was doing my run workout today I had the thought "I'd rather fail at living an exceptional life than succeed at living a mediocre life."

Here's a tiny bit more detail about why I was having that thought. I'm pursuing a lot of big dreams right now.

Road Ride Zone 2

[Saturday, July 11, 2015]

The bad news is that I blew a tube and my pump is broken. Fortunately, I got a fill from somebody with a CO2 cartridge. But, I wasn't able to complete my plan of doing two loops on the first section of the IM course.

The good news is that the workout was a total breeze for me. I rode for about 3 hours and averaged 15.2 mph for a total of about 46 miles.

Masters Swim

[Friday, July 10, 2015]

I needed to get more sleep this morning and didn't head out to the Master swim. Instead, this afternoon I went to the pool and swam 7 X 500m. I had hoped to do 8 X 500m, but got to the pool too late to have enough time.

I must say that I was a bit wobbly when I got out of the pool. I would have gladly done the 8th rep if I had time, though.

I enjoyed doing this workout and am glad to be reaching this volume of a workout.

Multi #6 (Brick)

[Wednesday, July 8, 2015]

I rode for about 1:00 and then ran for about 0:15.

I was wondering whether it makes sense for me to be practicing a brick since I'm not sure that I'm going to run right off the bike. But, I am supposed to get a run workout in on Wednesdays and I might just decide to run or run / walk the first mile. So, I think it does make sense for me to keep doing the brick.
