Road Ride Zone 2

[Thursday, April 24, 2014]

I rode for about one hour and twelve minutes. The ride out was faster than the ride back.

It was a little chilly, but I really enjoyed the early morning ride. This was another nice and easy ride.

Multi #6 (Brick)

[Wednesday, April 23, 2014]

I rode for about 37 minutes and then ran for 15 minutes. I didn't intend to exceed the 30 minutes on the bike. I kept the workout nice and easy and did not wear a heart rate monitor.

I'm glad I got out the door and completed my workout this morning; I'm getting myself back into the morning workout routine.

Multi #5

[Tuesday, April 22, 2014]

I swam 1000 yards at 1.30 seconds per stroke:

  • 2X100 yard warmup
  • 2X100 fist 25 / swim 25
  • 2X100 one arm 25 / swim 25
  • 2X100 fingertip 25 / swim 25
  • 2X100 cool down

I ran for 45 minutes easy (no heart rate monitor) at a cadence of 90.

I felt really tired this morning. But, I think this nice easy workout energized me. I ran outside and the weather is fantastic.

Run #1

[Sunday, April 20, 2014]

I ran for about one hour. It was around 50 degrees, so I wore a t-shirt and shorts. While I felt cool, I was perfectly comfortable.

I used the metronome to maintain the proper cadence, but did not wear a heart rate monitor. I just ran at a pace that I perceived to be easy. I would say that I experienced a mixture of enjoyment and looking forward to the workout being over.

Road Ride Zone 2

[Saturday, April 19, 2014]

I rode for two hours today. The computer says that I averaged 14.6 mph. I wasn't wearing a heart rate monitor, but it was my intention to keep my heart rate low. I got rained on for the last half hour of the ride, but I really didn't mind.

I enjoyed the ride and it felt good to be out on the road and trails.

Exercise update

[Thursday, April 17, 2014]

On Tuesday I jogged to the King Sooper's and back to pick up my prescription for the antibiotic. I would say it was at most 1.5 miles.

Yesterday I rode my bike for just over 30 minutes and did about a ten minute run.

Today I rode my bike for just over one hour.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a swim workout. But, I still don't want to get back in the pool. I'll probably just take Zen for a walk.

I'm not sure what to say

[Monday, April 14, 2014]

I still had a bit of sore throat throughout the night and decided that I should probably see a doctor. When I woke up with an ear ache that sealed the deal.

I do have an ear infection and have been prescribed antibiotics. The doctor also encouraged me to let my body rest and just walk for exercise. When I reminded her that I had taken three weeks off (prior to resuming the workouts this past week), she said that I should at least consider doing truncated and / or fewer workouts each week for a while.

Run #1

[Sunday, April 13, 2014]

I ran for about 50 minutes. I did not wear a heart rate monitor. I just kept any easy pace. I did use the metronome to maintain the right cadence.

It was pretty cold and snowy, but I enjoyed the run nonetheless.

Road Ride Zone 2

[Saturday, April 12, 2014]

I headed East for the ride today on the Bear Creek Trail into the Platte River Trail. I made my way home heading west across town starting from the REI.

Here are the stats for the ride:

  • Duration: 1:42:29
  • Distance: 27.14 miles
  • Average speed: 15.8 mph
  • Max speed: 35.6 mph

This workout was much more enjoyable. I think my heart rate stayed pretty low for a good portion of the ride, at least on the way out.

1000 yard Swim Workout

[Friday, April 11, 2014]

I did the whole workout at 1.30 seconds per stroke.

  • 2X100 yard warmup
  • 2X100 yard one arm drills
  • 2X100 yard fist drill
  • 2X100 yard fingertip drill
  • 2X100 yard cool down

I really enjoyed this workout. I felt so relaxed by the end. I think that it made a huge difference that I wasn't timing everything. I think that maybe for the rest of this season I will focus only on seconds per stroke. I'll still pay attention to what my strokes per length looks like. But, I won't time anything.
