Stationary Bike #1
Today was the first time I had to ride for 45 minutes. I was concerned how I was going to make it through the workout.
I rode on the Cybex upright using the heart rate program at 138bpm. My heart rate may have been up a little bit, because I did not feel like the bike was making me push as many Watts as other workouts. It wasn't too hard to make it through the 45 minutes. I rode a total of 12.62 miles. this is equivalent of an average pace of about 16.8mph.
Looking through the previous workouts, it appears that my best average pace so far has been about 17.3mph. But, that was on the recumbent. So, I don't know if I can compare the numbers directly, as it seems different bikes do calculate the numbers a bit differently. The best pace I have had on this particular bike was about 17.2mph. The slowest pace so far has been an average of 16.7mph.
So, this workout was on the low end for my average pace. But, I don't mind that the first time I had to increase the time my pace was a bit slower. My target pace for 2014 is about 17.1mph for the half IM distance. But, I don't know how well the pace on a stationary bike relates to actually riding on the road. And, in any case, I think that I'm working as hard as I can. I think that using the heart rate workout and riding on a stationary bike is giving me the best workout I can accomplish. So, I'll just have to be persistent and see what ends up happening.
Next Saturday I jump up to 1 hour and 15 minutes. The Saturday after that the workout is 1 hour 30 minutes. In a few weeks I may need to start riding outdoors. I don't know if I can even stay on the bike for 1.5 hours, much less longer than that. Even 1 hour and 15 minutes may be pushing the limits. I may need to consider using my rollers and / or purchasing a resistance trainer.
